Prostitutie Informatie Centrum
Het Prostitutie Informatie Centrum, het PIC, geeft informatie over sekswerk vanuit het perspectief van sekswerkers aan iedereen die er interesse in heeft.
In de geschiedenis van hiv blijven de verhalen van sekswerkers voor een groot deel onderbelicht. Het Prostitutie Informatie Centrum (PIC) neemt deel aan deze tentoonstelling om juist ook deze groep zichtbaar te maken.
Het is belangrijk dat de verhalen opgetekend worden nu de generatie die het heeft meegemaakt (voor een deel) nog in leven is. Vele verhalen zijn niet verteld of in de vergetelheid geraakt. Deze moeten nu vastgelegd worden, nu dat nog kan. Ook ligt veel materiaal her en der verspreid. Door deze tentoonstelling wordt dit allemaal samengebracht.
Door de jaren heen hielden verschillende organisaties zich bezig met de belangen van sekswerkers. Toen aids in de jaren tachtig in Nederland opkwam was de belangenbehartiging gefragmenteerd. De GG&GD was via de soa-spreekuren betrokken bij preventiewerk en de Mr. A. de Graaf-stichting was al sinds de jaren zestig bezig met de acceptatie van sekswerk als arbeid. In het kielzog daarvan werd in 1985 De Rode Draad opgericht als belangenbehartigingsorganisatie. Het Prostitutie Informatie Centrum (PIC) startte in 1994 om stigma’s rondom sekswerk te bestrijden.
In de kamer bij het PIC is er meer te zien over die eerste jaren van het PIC, de impact van hiv en aids bij sekswerkers, en hoe sekswerkers vandaag de dag nog steeds te maken hebben met stigma.
